Roles and permissions

Not everyone who helps run a server should be able to change everything. PanelRP gives each server a few built-in roles and lets you create your own, with the exact permissions you choose. This guide covers the built-in roles, inviting people, assigning roles and creating a custom role.

Steps

  1. Know the built-in roles

A new server comes with three system roles. Administrator holds every permission. Moderator can see the dashboard, the players, the jobs, the activity log and the statistics, and moderate blog comments. Member can see the dashboard and their own profile. The owner of the server is separate and cannot be changed from the Team page.

  2. Invite someone

Open "Team" in the sidebar of the admin. In "Invite someone", enter an email address, choose a role and click "Send invitation". The person receives a link valid for 7 days and chooses their own password. Pending invitations are listed and can be resent or canceled.

  3. Change an account

In the list of accounts, open "Manage this account". You can change the role, switch the account between "Active" and "Disabled", tick custom roles if you created some, and click "Save". Your own account and the owner account cannot be changed from there.

  4. Create a custom role

Open "Roles and permissions" in the sidebar. The "Roles" page lists system and custom roles with their number of permissions. Click "Create Role", fill in "Name", "Display Name" and "Description", tick the permissions the role should have, then click "Create Role" again.

  5. Choose the permissions carefully

Permissions are grouped by area. Players, jobs, vehicles, properties, shops, items, bank, media and invoices each have a "view" and a "manage" permission. Statistics and the activity log can only be viewed, the server website has its own "manage" permission, and settings, users and roles have their own permissions too. Give a role only what it needs.

  6. Edit or delete a role

Click "Edit" on a role to change its description or its permissions, then "Save changes". The name of a role cannot be edited after creation. System roles cannot be deleted; custom roles can, with "Delete".

Good to know

  • Only the owner and the administrators, or accounts holding the matching permission, can invite people, change roles and grant permissions.
  • Each job, such as police or hospital, has its own roles, which its boss defines from the job admin.
  • Role names must be unique within your server.
