Point-by-point comparison
| Discord + spreadsheet | With a panel | |
|---|---|---|
| Whitelist | Discord messages and a shared sheet | Form, queue and applicant-visible status |
| Sanctions | A text channel that is hard to search | Filterable log with author and reason |
| Ranks | Discord roles changed by hand | Panel ranks synced with Discord |
| Traceability | Depends on everyone's discipline | Automatic audit log |
| Rights | Everyone sees the whole sheet | Rights by rank and by action |
| Public showcase | Site to build and maintain | Public site and a page per job |
| Growth | The sheet grows, the staff gets lost | Modules, themes, API and database |
When a spreadsheet is enough. For a small server with three moderators and few applications, a shared spreadsheet and a log channel do the job. A panel becomes useful when the staff grows, jobs multiply or you want a public site.
